STATEMENT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Takahiro Ueda studied under Noboru Takayama at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts. After completing his graduate studies, he moved to Germany in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist has been greatly influenced by Mono-ha of Japan and the modern and post-modern minimalism of Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through his considerations of time, space, and physical environmental changes, he brings forward the issues of society today, and practices cross-disciplinary creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this event, as the first solo exhibition since his return to Japan in 2019, visitors will be able to see some parts of his recent works which are a condensed presentation of his past creations in Japan and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition \u201cIs this It ?\u201d articulates the essential self-denial of materials themselves or the antithesis that proves the interactions of materials with the environment as a medium. In other words, the fluid relationship between \u201chumans and materials\u201d depending on the interactions of the observer and the surrounding environment, conversely, exposes the self-denial of each individual. From such a perspective, we can also inquire whether \u201cIs this It\u201d can become \u201cIt is This\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ueda\u2019s creations merge Mono-ha with minimalism to bring forth a novel expression while maintaining consistency. According to the artist, the substantial pursuit of materials can be said to be, in a way, an expression to portray the marginal relationship between the material and its environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, given the growth of nonmaterial space caused by computerization, the question of how to capture micro- to macro- materials remains yet unsolved. At this exhibition, the modern alchemist Takahiro Ueda will let you through a magic door to a new relationship connecting the materials and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
